Joana Magalhães

Joana Magalhães graduated in Psychology and Theatre. She works in performing arts as a creator and performer since 2010, developing, more recently, a work of intersection with the plastic arts and performance. She has a special interest in dramaturgy, video and installation. She is resident performer and creator in the company Comédias do Minho since 2016 and works in parallel as a freelancer. As a performer she has worked with Teatro Meridional, Teatro do Vestido, Palmilha Dentada, Mundo Razoável, Teatro do Frio, Pedro Penim, among others. As a creator she highlights the shows Noite de Estreia (2016), performance exhibition created for the company Teatro a Quatro, O espetáculo mais contemporâneo do mundo (2017), show selected for residence at Mala Voadora Porto, There's something about the air (2018), show/installation, U (2019), Haiku (2019), winning project of the creation scholarship attributed by Mala Voadora to participants of Recurso 2018 and Haiku extended2(2020), durational performance built for digital context. In 2018 she attended the Recurso (a creative course promoted by Estrutura, Mala Voadora and José Maria Vieira Mendes), beginning her research on the end and the discourses and mythologies associated with it. This research culminated in the project Miragem - Discourses about the end, with which she won the Criatório 2021. This project, Distância de segurança, appears inserted in the curatorial axis of the UMA Platform for 2021 - Buraco 2.0: https://plataformauma.com/work/distancia-de-seguranca. She is one of the co-founders of this digital platform dedicated to creation, programming and curation.
