Joana Castro

Joana Castro (1988, Porto).

Portuguese choreographer and performer develops her work between dance, performance and sound, having presented some of her works in Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany and Brazil.

As a creator in dance/performance highlights Perto... tanto quanto possível (2014), SU8MARINO (2016/17), RITE OF DECAY (2019/20), and STILL we MOVE (2021) in collaboration with Maurícia | Neves and Darktraces (2021), and in sound highlights PARADISUM (2015) and the soundscape RITE OF DECAY (2019/20) in collaboration with Diana Combo.

Since 2007 has been dealing with death in a very close and recurrent way, and inevitably ideas like rituals of end, extinction, (dis)appearance and death as a transforming power have inhabited her creative universe.

Currently is on tour with RITE OF DECAY and in the creative process of ~~Darktraces~~: on ghosts and spectral dances, to première at Serralves – Museu de Arte Contemporânea in the context of Dias Da Dança Festival, organized by Teatro Municipal do Porto on April 30^th and May 1^st of 2022.
