In this edition, Self-Uncensored brings together a series of performances and lecture-performances that approach the voice as a space of tension between intimate experience, social structure and the possibility of affirmation. Between the internal world and external mechanisms of regulation, the works question who is allowed to speak, who is listened to, and how different systems of power produce silencing, self-censorship and legitimacy of speech.
From distinct perspectives, the artists address issues related to productivity, privilege, class, gender, transgression and authority, invoking the voice as political, affective and performative material, but also as a space for negotiation, listening, proximity and relation.
In this edition, Self-Uncensored brings together works by Gaya de Medeiros, Josefa Pereira, Lígia Soares, Maikon K and Rubén Sabbadini.
Self-Uncensored is a project that questions contemporary forms of censorship within “democratic” contexts, focusing on the mechanisms that lead to self-censorship and internalised censorship.
Conceived as an expanded festival, it unfolds over time through short-duration events presented across different spaces and contexts.
