SELF-UNCENSORED [On Mentorship] 2024

Mentorships

The Mentorships program supports artists developing works likely to face forms of censorship or constraint. Guided by international mentors with direct or indirect experience related to censorship, these processes encourage self-observation on aspects that may limit artistic work and provide tools to overcome restrictions, within a context of risk, freedom, and experimentation.

This mentorship program constituted a pilot phase of the Self-Uncensored [On Mentorship] project, testing methodologies and mentoring approaches that pave the way for future editions.

Supported Artists 2024

Natacha Campos
Choreographer seeking to challenge established discourses. During her residency at Rua das Gaivotas 6 (10–23 November 2024), she is developing MA, a creation about the process of “becoming a person,” focusing on femininity, journey, and care.

Izabel Nejur
Non-binary artist working through fluidity and multidisciplinarity. During residencies between July and November 2024, they tested GIGANTESCA at CPBC, a continuously evolving work exploring resistance and persistence through sound, visual, and bodily landscapes.

William Cardoso
Dancer and choreographer living between Luxembourg and Portugal. In residence in November 2024, he is researching Deadline, a piece that takes the “deadline” as a metaphor for imminent separation, exploring social and personal ruptures, urgency, and breaking points.

Mentors 2024

Maikon K (Brazil/Germany)
An artist working at the borders of performance, dance, and theatre, exiled in Berlin since 2020 after artistic persecution in Brazil. His work investigates states of presence, hybrid dramaturgies, and transgressive actions, exploring relationships between the sacred and profane, the grotesque and the sublime. www.maikonk.com

Sepideh Khodarahmi
Artist from Iran/Sweden, based between Portugal and Sweden. Since 2016, she has explored drag as an artistic and pedagogical practice, working on themes such as destruction, eroticism, intimacy, queerness, and power, with sensuality as a recurring method. She has collaborated with Marina Abramovic, Hooman Sharifi, and Dinis Machado, and has performed on international stages such as The Royal Theatre (Stockholm) and Teatro Nacional D. Maria II (Lisbon).

Gustavo Gomes
Brazilian performer, choreographer, and filmmaker, based in Cologne, Germany. His research focuses on movement, understanding body and mind in dialogue and group dynamics as the foundation of choreography.
