David Marques
David Marques (Portugal, 1985) is a Portuguese dancer and choreographer. He graduated from the Dance Department - Escola Superior de Dança, Lisbon. In 2009/2010 he attended ex.e.r.ce in the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier led by Mathilde Monnier. He is a recipient of a scholarship from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
Marques started developing his own choreographic work in 2007 with the support of Eira in Lisbon. Since then he has presented his work in Portugal, Spain, France, Ukraine, Israel and Brazil. He created 'Motor de Busca', 'Future Plans', 'Conquest' (an adaptation of a solo score by Deborah Hay, 'KIN' and 'Ressaca', nominated for the Best Choreography SPA Prize 2018. With Ido Feder he developed the trilogy Bête de Scène'/'Images de Bêtes'/'THE POWERS THAT B' His work has been regularly supported by the Gulbenkian Foundation. With Tiago Cadete he created 'Apagão', a piece in the darkness. He is currently developping the group piece 'Mistério da Cultura' to premiere in September 2019.
He has collaborated as a performer with the choreographers: Loic Touzé, Francisco Camacho, David Wampach, Filipa Francisco, Tiago Guedes, Lucie Tumova, Lígia Teixeira, Maya Levy&Anando Mars, with theatre directors Raquel Castro, Tiago Vieira and with Emily Wardill, visual artist.
He has led composition workshops at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, in Seoul in the frame of the Research Project (SIDance Festival) and at Danslab, Brussels. As part of the research around the 'shameless dance' he has created a piece with the students of the BA in Dance at Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon.
